Abstract:

Shell dredged from bays along the central Louisiana Coast has historically provided an economical source of relatively low cost construction aggregate, as well as a source of calcium carbonate. The purpose of this document is to determine the environmental consequences of shell dredging in the nearshore Gulf GOM waters within the three mile territorial limit. Two alternatives were considered in detail. These alternatives include no action and the proposal to remove shell in portions of the nearshore GOM.
