Abstract:
This research explores ways of reducing frozen flow losses via state- resolved numerical simulations quasi 1-D, 2D, and 2D with swirl. Frozen flow losses in molecular vibration, rotation, and electronic excitation are believed to account for significant losses in thrust and efficiency of arcjet thrusters. This report summarizes the accomplishments in the first two years of a four year research program designed to quantify frozen flow losses, and to generate design tools useful for the designer to enhance arcjet performance. Frozen flow losses, Arcjets, Plasma thrusters, Numerical simulations, Supersonic reacting flows.
