Abstract:

Theory of Constraints ToC is a production philosophy seeking to globally optimize the manufacturers constraints to meeting his business objective. The constraints to the Department of Defense DOD Naval Aviation Depot NADEP are Unknown production resource requirements until aircraft disassembly and unscheduled production workloads due to unexpected high unit operational failure or unit modification. The thesis objective is to analyze the NADEPs remanufacturing process, determine areas that will benefit from the implementation of ToC, and then document managerial tools the depot level manager could use to globally optimize the remanufacturing process. The study focuses on the A-6 remanufacturing line at the NADEP, Alameda, CA. The thesis concludes ToC is a viable methodology, and with the use of Queuing Charts and Critical Resource Scheduling, the NADEP can meet its business objective of providing a cost effective remanufacturing capability to the DOD.
