For this report, a comparative analysis was conducted of three primary archival data sources from the Joint Readiness Training Center JRTC the take home packages THPs, company and task force after action reviews AARs, and the training and evaluation outline TEO data base. Task force and enemy missionsorganizations, battle damage assessments, company tasks and performance, and critical incidents affecting mission performance were examined. This case study of two FY90 JRTC rotations was part of the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences ARI research effort on unit training and performance at the Combat Training Centers. Each source contained unique information. Sources complemented and supplemented each other, due partly to their differing purposes and the selectivity in the information reported. Sources also differed in ease of use, with the THPs and the paper copy of the task force AARs the most user-friendly. The THP, when complemented by the paper copy and video tape of the task force AAR, will give most archive users a good understanding of each mission. When questions of interest narrow to specific systems, conditions, andor missions, then all sources should be examined. The archive is located at the ARI Field Unit at Presidio of Monterey, CA.
