Abstract:
Mexican politicians and intellectuals view the U.S. as a somewhat pretentious, probably conceited, and often hypocritical nation that perceives only those aspects of its own actions deemed worthy of its own mythology. Whether on the subject of Texas independence or todays war on drugs, many Mexicans tend to accentuate the darker aspects of American life, those which the United States itself often refuses to acknowledge in its dealings with its southern neighbor. Can the United States and Mexico successfully implement a treaty if we have different perspectives on the intrinsic value of the agreement The United States and Mexico must have a better understanding of each other before we can normalize our relationship.
