This report describes a study to assess the feasibility of using a high-Tc SQUID based magnetometry system to detect subsurface defects in aircraft. Four major tasks were performed 1 identification of the defects of most interest to the aircraft NDI community 2 mathematical modelling of the magnetic field due to a defect when exposed to eddy currents 3 experimental demonstration of the technique on scale models using a laboratory system and 4 detailed analysis of the electronic and cryogenic system requirements. This work was performed in collaboration with Dr. Fred Wellstood of the Superconductivity Center at the University of Maryland.
