Abstract:

Synthesis, characterization and properties of microphase separated mixed ionic and electronic conducting or MIEC block copolymers are reported. Polyomega-methoxyoctaoxyethylenemethacrylate-block-4-vinylpyridine, abbreviated as PMG8-4VP, and poly3-methylthiophene-block-omega- methoxyoctaoxyethylenemethacrylate, abbreviated as P3MT-MG8, have been synthesized. Both block copolymer series may be appropriately doped to generate separate electronic and ionic conducting microdomains in the overall solid matrix. Also, highly ionic conductive solid polymer electrolytes have been prepared by blending polyethylene oxide, poly2- or 4-vinylpyridine and LiC1O4. All blends were prepared by the solution blending process. Optimum blend compositions have been determined such that dimensionally stable elastomeric materials with ionic conductivities around 10-5 S cm-1 at 25 deg C are obtained.
