Abstract:

Soil samples were collected from various geographical areas in the United States and Saudi Arabia. The samples were obtained from U.S. military installations where off-road maneuvers are conducted. Saudi Arabian samples were obtained from the deserts surrounding Riyadh. The soil samples were characterized using particle size distributions, elemental analysis, mineral composition, and particle angularity. Particle size distributions were also determined for a simulated fuel cell during intermittent and continuous mixing conditions. The results obtained from the worldwide soil sampling were compared against AC and PTI test dusts.
