The Department of Defense DoD has launched the Corporate Information Management CIM initiative to help improve DoD acquisition and implementation of information systems. Key to the successful implementation of new information systems is the improvement or redesign of current DoD business processes, rather than automating an existing inferior process. Once the functional manager has improved or redesigned the processes, the next step is to implement them within the managers organization. To effectively implement change, the manager must establish a plan for implementation, manage the implementation, effectively communicate the changes to the organization, monitor and evaluate the changes, and then execute changeover to the new system.
