Abstract:

A major part of the debate over U.S. national security interests and the application of military force examines the need for, and the feasibility of, the U.S. Military to undertake missions other than those involving major regional conflicts MRCs. These missions include disaster relief, counterterrorism, counterdrugs, humanitarian relief, peacekeeping, and peacemaking. We designed a framework of criteria to address these issues, and to place military solutions to international security problems in the context of other, nonmilitary solutions. The report also identifies the implications of peacetime engagement missions for DoD organization and training. Peacekeeping, Peacemaking, Humanitarian relief, Counterterrorism, Counterdrugs.
