Abstract:

The GERESS array project is a Cooperative research program, jointly undertaken by Southern Methodist University Dallas USA and Ruhr-University Bochum in Germany. It is part of a multi-array network which includes NORESS, ARCESS, and FINESA in Scandinavia. This report summarizes research activities carried out at the data centre in the Institute of Geophysics in Bochum during 1992. GERESS data are continuously transmitted from the array hub in Bavaria to Bochum via 64 kbit line. In Bochum, an experimental on-line processing system, based on RONAPP, is operated to monitor data quality and initiate maintenance activities. In 1992, Ruhr-University continued the on-site maintenance of the array as part of the research grant. As described in detail in the annual status report chapter 1, the monthly uptime of the array varied in 1992 between 87.8 and 99.8 with an average of 96.9 . As part of the maintenance, a thorough investigation of the GERESS instrument calibration was performed chapter 2. Components which were checked, include GS-13 generator constant, transfer function, and calibration coil motor constant, RDAS preamplification, AD conversion, and calibration signal....
