This paper provides a summary of non- proliferation policies along with discussion of current world realities leading to the conclusion that the existing non-prolif eration regime is losing its potency. Three options are provided on potential ways and of halting the spread of these weapons as Third World nations search for their niche in Post Cold War world. The options include the impact of continuing with current policies an aggressive military-oriented forced compliance policy and third, an approach that envisions nation building and developing economic power as a counter to seeking regional influence through mass destruction weapons.
