Following the end of the Cold War, the United States as well as other nations around the world now find themselves in a state of political, economic, and military transition. While the U.S. and other nations such as the Islamic Republic of Iran are undergoing significant increases in military spending. This increase has been primarily in the area of conventional forces, however there is growing evidence that Iran is also attempting to develop a nuclear weapons capability as well. This study examines Irans nuclear weapons program in detail, and Tehrans increasing ability to emerge as a regional power in the Middle East.
