This paper examines the vertical and horizontal wicking movement of water along a strip of textile material, a common method of evaluating the wicking behaviour of fabrics. It was found that the fabrics of this -study contain imperfect capillaries, with no one property, other than gross surface characteristics, universally contributing to their wicking behaviour. It was concluded that the wicking behaviour of each fabric must be determined individually.
