Abstract:

Hard real-time systems are defined as those software systems in which the correctness of the system depends not only on the logical result of computation, but also on the time at which the results are produced. Hard real-time systems of interest to the Department of Defense DoD are tailored specifically to their applications, employ various degrees of fault-tolerance, and are typically embedded in larger systems. The process of design and development of these systems is often plagued with uncertainty, ambiguity, and inconsistency. This report examines problems and issues in managing real-time software projects.
