Abstract:
A quick response demonstration was performed during the Persian Gulf War that showed a capability to monitor the path of oil dumped into the bay near Kuwait City using commercial satellite imagery. Both manual and semi-automated methods of image analysis were performed on AVHRR and Landsat TM imagery. Estimates of the oil area coverage were obtained using conventional classification methods. A hardcopy generation and reproduction capability was also demonstrated. Persian Gulf, Oil Spill, AVHRR, Landsat TM, Euclidean Distance, Bayesian Discriminant, Classifiers, Hardcopy Processing.
