The worldwide trend toward producing lighter, more efficient aircraft propulsion systems presents a special challenge to the engine component designer. Higher cycle temperature, increased aerodynamic loads, and higher rotating speeds coupled with reduced component weights all work in opposition to component life and durability. Basically, two technologies are available or are emerging that will enable component life and durability to be maintained at at least the present level 1 new high temperature, high strength-to-weight ratio materials 2 new structural design and life prediction codes and methodologies. The six test cases comprising this AGARD report addresses some of the development and validation requirements associated with the second technology. It is the specific intent of this report to provide to the engine component design community as complete a data set and operational or test history as possible for use in exercising and validating newly emerging or developmental codes.
