With growing recognition throughout the world that not all environmental and health risks can be resolved simultaneously with available resources comes growing demands for workable approaches to the setting of priorities. The US Army faces the same issues. This report first provides a review of current trends in risk assessment and risk prioritization. Though the concepts are different, many people incorrectly use the terms interchangeable. Therefore, the report carefully distinguishes between the two sets of ideas. It then analyses the principal approaches to risk prioritization in more detail in order to show which might be most applicable to Army activities and management needs.
