The development of diagnostics for studying the behaviour and performance of armatures and rail accelerators is one of the subjects covered by the section EML-research of the PML-Pulse Physics Laboratory. Within that framework the development of data analysis software is in progress. This report describes a new data reduction technique to resolve armature motion from the measurement of the voltage induced in a flux loop diagnostic and the load current through the rail-armature circuit andor its time derivative. Velocity and position of the armature as a function of time are calculated by the computer code developed. The recent improvements in data reduction are exemplified by the results of experiments performed with a 1m, 15mm square bore dipole rail accelerator. Validation of the flux loop diagnostic, in terms of accuracy, precision, range of operation, resolution, sensitivity and prospects is carried out. Suggestions to reduce the influence of the disadvantages observed are given Development, Computer Programs, Data Processing, Motion.
