Abstract:

Pershing II missile elimination noise measurements were used as the basis for comparing three noise prediction programs ground-to-ground propagation modeling approaches. The effects of atmospheric refraction, atmospheric absorption and ground impedance are considered. The noise models were compared because they are currently in use, in different venues, for environmental noise propagation modeling. The respective strong points of each model are emphasized. The results are used to delineate the needs for development of a model which produces both rapid and physically detailed predictions.
