Abstract:

This manual is designed to provide both a quick reference and step- by-step instructions for using the Systematic Organizational Design SORD methodology. Each step of this procedure is illustrated with data from simplified units. SORD was developed in response to an Army need to standardize the process for creating initial concepts for organizing Army units. SORD is a PC-based system for assisting in developing the initial designs of Army units up to an including company-size units. SORD is a process that can help structure and systematize unit design developement through the stage of producing a Unit Reference Sheet URS. SORD is more of a process than a processor because the user is the one who makes all decisions about requirements, personnel, and design. SORD consists principally of menus and data input screens. The basic approach of the system is one of helping establish the requirements of unit and then matching types of personnel and materiel to those requirements.
