Abstract:
The objectives of this research program were to develop a field repair patch for composite armor and composite structures and vehicles which have damaged and restore environmental security and structural integrity quickly and easily. A sunlight cured fiberglass prepreg patch and putty were successfully developed which cured in a few minutes and had excellent physical properties and adhesion to aluminum, steel, FRP, and polyurethane paint. A lightweight portable UVa photolamp six pounds was also developed which is powered by the standard 24-V Army vehicle battery so that the patch and putty can be cured inside the vehicle. The patch and putty is storable inside a sealed aluminum pouch for over 12 months under normal conditions. A NSN number had been assigned for ordering the combined patch and putty field repair system. Author
