Dipolar Interaction Assisted Effects on Second Harmonic Generation

The coefficients for second harmonic generation SHG for the 2-methyl 4-nitroanilinepolymethyl methacrylate guesthost system were measured as a function of the NLO chromophore concentration and of the poling field strength. The orientational order parameters OP were calculated from the SHG coefficients. The OPs were found to depend on the NLO chromophore concentration. The concentration dependence was associated with Kirkwoods g-factor describing the orientational pair correlation. The ratio of order parameters L33L31, measured in the weak poling field condition is 3, and independent of the NLO chromophore concentration. This is in agreement with the result of a recent calculation.
