What is the relationship between scarce international water resources and security in the Jordan River basin and what are its implications for conflict The importance of the water problem in the Middle East is that in a region already divided by religious, nationalistic, and ethnic strife and already burdened by rapid population growth and limited resources, demand has exceeded supply of the critical resource of water. This could result first in destabilization of specific regimes and then in regional warfare for the control of available water resources. My objective is to use the case study of water related conflict in the Jordan basin to construct a model for examining water related conflicts which can then be applied throughout the Middle East.
