Abstract:

The research contract involved the study of high temperature superconducting microwave cavities for space applications. The focus of the program was the design, construction, testing and evaluation of an active compact hydrogen maser resonator. The critical component of the resonator is a high Q compact cavity resonator which makes use of high T, superconductors to reduce microwave losses. By use of these materials in a compact cavity resonator, maser resonator volume can be reduced by 98 with cavity Q high enough for maser oscillation.
