Abstract:

Paganos theory of laminated plates is restated in the form of a set of self-adjoint differential equations. Identifying consistent boundary operators, general variational principle is stated following standard procedures for linear coupled self adjoint systems of equations. Extensions to relax requirements of differentiability of various field variables are indicated along with specializations to reduce the number of free field variables. One specialization is implemented in a finite element computer program and used to solve several example problems of free-edge delamination specimens.
