Abstract:

Two-dimensional finite element analysis is employed to predict the mechanical properties of unidirectional composite materials with isotropic constituents. The composite is treated as a transversely isotropic but homogeneous continuum, and linear elastic behavior is assumed for the analysis. Axisymmetric and plane strain finite element formulations along with the constitutive relations for transversely isotropic materials are used to obtain the apparent properties of the composite. The results are compared with results from micromechanics equations and experimental data. Composites, Micromechanics, Mechanical properties, Finite element analysis. Elastic properties,
