Abstract:

Two monomers, 4-CO2EtCNCCHC6H40CH26OH2 and 4-CHOC6H40CH2 602CCH2CN 3, both containing NLO-phores, were prepared and polymerized by different methods. The Knoevenagel polycondensation technique provided polymers of good molecular weight and tractable in organic solvents. A series of biscarboxaldehyde comonomers were prepared in the study, and copolymerized with CNCH2CO2CH26O2CCH2CN to afford new series of accordion polymers 6 which contains NLO-phores. The copolymers were obtained with molecular weights in the range of 3100 to 30,100. We did not observe Tgs for the copolymers above 10 deg C. Author
