Abstract:

Thermal elastohydrodynamic EHD lubrication of rollingsliding line contacts is investigated to develop an interactive computer program for prediction of lubrication system performance. The user inputs lubricant and mechanical system physical properties as well as operating conditions of load and speed for calculation of contact zone pressure, temperature, traction, and stresses. This program is one of the first to include thermal effects in calculations and, therefore, can more accurately assess the critical tribological performance parameters at high load and speed conditions than previous prediction models. The program is written in the FORTRAN language and utilizes a UNIX operating system for high quality graphic output allowing easy visualization of results.
