Abstract:

Two noncontact, remote sensing experimental mechanics techniques using laser speckle are developed. CASI Computer Aided Speckle Interferometry is a full field method whereby the speckle formed on the entire specimen surface is captured by a CCD camera and digitally processed to yield stressstrain data. It has been applied to the study of gun oscillation during firing and high strain rate material testing under high temperature and high heating rate. LSS Laser Speckle Sensor is a pointwise technique particularly useful for detecting plastic strain, surface texture change due to damage or fatigue.
