Abstract:

100 Hz operation of a NdYAG laser longitudinally pumped by a 1 W peak power quasi-cw laser diode was investigated theoretically and experimentally. An optical-to-optical slope efficiency of 33, indicating a wall-plug efficiency of 7, was exhibited, but the threshold optical power of 330 mW was high due to poor antireflection coatings on the laser rod giving a round-trip intracavity loss of 3.1 . The 1.064 micro output was observed to be diffraction-limited. The theoretical modelling of the lasers input output characteristics agreed well with the experimentally obtained results.
