Abstract:
The last few years have seen rapid advances in a number of new technologies aimed at improving the storage and retrieval of information. Information Scientists may be aware of their potential but may have reservations concerning the absence of suitable standards or the short life associated with some developments. This Specialists meeting brought together a group of experts to explain the practicalities of applying these new, powerful technologies, their success and failures. Topics addressed include Artificial Intelligence, CD ROM, Hypertext and Local Area Networks, within the framework of finding practical solutions to the problems of achieving efficient and effective information transfer. The meeting had the following objectives 1 To present first-hand, practical experience of initiatives to improve Information Transfer, by experts in the field and 2 To provide up-to-date information on the new technologies which have been successfully used to promote efficient and effective information transfer. The meeting was directed particularly at information providers and users, especially those acting within the NATO community.
