Abstract:
During the course of this program, an acoustic exercise was conducted along the two track lines on Little Bahama Bank in the vicinity of Ocean Drilling Program. Part I of this technical note presents the geology of Little Bahama Bank, an analysis of available data, and two geoacoustic models, one specific for an array placed over ODP Site 628, and another more general model that may be used anywhere over the bank. Part II is a similar presentation of data and geoacoustic models for the bottom and subbottom environments underlying a transect north of Little Bahama Bank to Kings Bay, Georgia. Geoacoustic models were generated in anticipation of a future experiment. To adequately model and interpret acoustic results, it is necessary to know sediment geoacoustic properties. These geoacoustic properties are presented in the form of geoacoustic models that contain basic information required to understand acoustic propagation in bottom-interacting situations.
