Abstract:

The ability of the guinea pig to run on a treadmill for a sustained period of time was investigated as a possible exercise model. Training was conducted over a twelve-day period at speeds ranging from 0.08 mph 1.93 mpm to 0.50 mph 11.61 mpm and session lengths from 5 to 15 minutes. A rating scale O TO 5 was developed as a means to score the animals exercise performance with a mean score of two being set as the criterion for the group. of the twelve animals trained only two failed to reach this mean criterion over the twelve-day training period. The treadmill performance of the animals overall was encouraging with a mean score of 2.47 0.96 over the 12-day training period. Guinea Pigs, Treadmill, Exercise.
