The results revealed that the gun tube material met the specified mechanical with the exception of percent reduction- in-area and material requirements. Evidence showed that the failure was due to a quench crack. In addition, it was determined that a forging defect acted as a stress concentrator for the quench crack Failure, Forging, 155-mm M284 Failure, Forging Defect, Quench Crack.
