Abstract:

Pornography in America is a 4-8 billion dollar a year business. Society has long been concerned about the effects obscene material may have on its members. In particular, there are those who claim pornography and sexual aggression is a cause and effect relationship. Others contend pornography, while offensive to most, is basically harmless. This study examines pornography, concentrating on the pornographyaggression linkage. This study confirms the complexities involved in trying to neatly plug a controversial social issue into a scientific formula cause and effect. Clearly, emotion runs high on both sides of the issue and a consensus as to the effects of pornography upon our society appears unreachable, at least of pornography upon our society appears unreachable, at least at this point in time. Future field research is critical if progressive efforts are to be made in an effort to answer the many unresolved questions.
