This report discusses remediation of landfill leachate and contaminated ground water at selected Naval facilities. A conventional treatment train air stripping, ion exchange, and carbon adsorption was used to illustrate the treatment potential for a diluted leachate at Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach. The treatment removed specified organics to below 29 ppb and specified metals to below Californias drinking water standards. Available costs for conventional and innovative treatment trains were considered. Treatment technologies include oil water separators, activated sludge, trickling filter, powdered activated carbon, neutralization, oxidation reduction, precipitationfloculationsedimentation, and air stripping.
