Precipitated blends of two crystallizable polybutadiene PBD isomers were characterized in terms of crystallization and phase behavior, morphology, and tensile mechanical properties. The isomers are syndiotactic 1,2 PBD and trans 1,4 PBD. As predicted by Flory-Huggins theory, the blends exhibit heterogeneous behavior over the full range of composition. Tensile properties of the crystalline blends are intermediate between those of the corresponding crystalline homopolymers, while tensile properties of the amorphous blends are generally worse than either of the amorphous homopolymers. But in both cases, property enhancement is evident at approximately 10 1,2 PBD content.
