This report analyzes the effect of finite cladding thickness on attenuation loss in uniformly curved single-mode optical fibers. An approximate electromagnetic analysis valid for relatively small cladding thicknesses and fiber radii of curvature in the centimeter to millimeter range is presented. Numerical results for fibers used in actual SKYRAY Fiber Optics Project field tests are presented and discussed.
