The changing role and shape of Europe will provide many new challenges to the United States into the 1990s. This study briefly defines four key developments in Europe that will affect United States policies. They are the reunification of Germany, the democratization of Eastern Europe, arms control, and the economic merger of twelve European nations in 1992. Within the context of these developments, this study concludes that the United States must become acutely aware of Europes growing role in international relations and adjust its policies in a new multipolar world community to reflect these changes.
