Abstract:

The computer program CHIEF developed over the last two decades by Naval Ocean Systems Center, San Diego, has recently been modified to allow the computation of sound radiation from arbitrarily shaped body where the normal velocity is prescribed on only part of its surface while one or two locally reacting complex impedances are assumed to cover the remainder of the surface. These impedances can range in value from zero to essentially infinity with any complex value in between. Results of some computations of far-field directivity pattern and radiation loading on simple shaped radiators with the mixed boundary conditions were compared with results available in the literature with generally good agreement.
