This is the Operational Concept Document OCD for the Next Generation Computer Resources NGCR Operating Systems Interface OSIF standard. The purpose of this OCD is to present the operational concept of the OSIF, which was derived through a consensus among Navy agencies, industry, and academia. This OCD will identify the requirements for services, interfaces, and protocols to be supported by the OSIF. The purpose of the OSIF is to establish a set of interfaces that controls the operation of all computing system hardware and software elements of a platform. These elements are coordinated in a uniform manner that is consistent with the mission of the platform. The OSIF is an interface specification it does not specify an operating system implementation. The objective of the baseline specification is to select a commercially available OSIF or family of interface baseline requirements and modify them as little as possible.
