Abstract:

This users manual for the semi-spectral primitive equation model SPEM attempts to describe the model equations as well as what the user has to do to configure the model for a specific application. The principle attributes of the model are as follows A General - 1 Primitive equations with temperature, salinity and an equation of state 2 Hydrostatic and Boussinesq approximations 3 Second-moment conservation 4 Optional Lagrangian floats B Horizontal - 1 Orthogonal-curvilinear coordinates 2 Arakawa C grid 3 Periodic channel or user supplied boundary conditions and C Vertical - 1 Sigmabottom-topography following coordinate 2 Chebyshev modal expansion, 3 Rigid lid on top.
