Abstract:

This report presents the application of the cyclomatic complexity requirement within a military system to improve reliability, quality assurance, and maintenance for the embedded computers within the 155 mm self-propelled Howitzer Improvement Program HIP. The cyclomatic complexity requirement was used in HIP based on research and documentation described in 1NBS 500-99, Cyclomatic Complexity Metric and 2 1985 Reliability and Maintainability Symposium, The Application of Software Test Tools. Results from the Joint U.S. Army - Israeli Defense Force HIP are impressive and the report highlights significant achievements within the software engineering discipline and applications within embedded computers within military systems.
