Abstract:

The security protection provided by the Hewlett Packard Computer Systems Division MPE VE operating system, running on one of the HP3000 System Processing Units listed in Appendix A and configured in an appropriately secure manner as described in the Trusted Facilities Manual sections of the Security Management Guide 61, and running on an acceptable combination of hardware from the list in Appendix B has been examined by the National Computer Security Center NCSC. The security features of MPE VE were examined against the requirements specified by the DoD Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria 86 the Criteria dated 26 December, 1985 in order to establish a candidate rating. The MPE VE operating system has a number of features that enhance the security of the computing system. These include both hardware features such as virtual memory and a two state architecture, and software features such as Access Control Definitions ACD and individually restricted operating system commands.
