This monograph examines the fire support command and control problems that confront a heavy division during synchronization of heavylight operations. The destructive force of massed fire support is a critical component of heavy light combat power. Command and control optimizes that combat power by effectively synchronizing fire support. Communications and procedures are two key elements of fire support command and control. This monograph examines these two elements from a historical, contemporary and theoretical perspective. It examines communications in terms of equipment and net structure, and examines procedures in terms of the timeliness of planning, coordination and execution.
