The security protection provided by the International Business Machines Corporation VMSP with RACF operating system software as described in Appendix B, running on one of the IBM 370 processors listed in Appendix A and configured in an appropriately trusted manner as described in the Trusted Facilities Library 28 has been examined by the National Computer Security Center NCSC. The security features of VMSP with RACF were examined against the requirements specified by the DoD Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria 40the Criteria dated 26 December, 1985 in order to establish a candidate rating. The NCSC evaluation team has determined that the highest class at which VMSP with RACF satisfies all the specified requirements of the Criteria is class C2. A system has been rated as being a C division system provides for discretionary need-to-know protection and, through the inclusion of audit capabilities, for accountability of subjects and the actions they may initiate. Such a system is expected to run in an environment of cooperating users processing data at the same level of sensitivity.
