Abstract:

This monograph examines the utility of amphibious operations as a form of maneuver at the operational level. With the U.S. Army restructing from a forward deployed force to a combat ready contingency force, forced entry operations become important. The two current options of forced entry are airborne and amphibious operations. The mission of the U.S. Army will not change. The change is in how the Army forces will deploy to initiate and support a successful land campaign. Additionally, the U.S. Army still has the requirement to organize, equip, and provide Army forces for amphibious operations.
