A motion analysis system is a critical component in the evaluation of the dynamic response of the human body during impact testing of crew restraint and protection systems. The Selspot motion analysis system was obtained to test and evaluate its performance under impact accelerations produced by a horizontal impulse accelerator. A pendulum-like motion standard was designed and fabricated to be installed on the horizontal accelerators impact sled. Tests were run to determine the accuracy and integrity of the Selspot system under acceleration levels up to 20 G. The accuracy of Selspots analysis of the motion of the pendulum during impact was determined through comparison to the accepted motion of the pendulum as recorded by a high resolution potentiometer mounted at the pendulums point of rotation. Results indicate the Selspot system has a motion error of less than 1 of the measuring range during impacts up to 20 G.
