Abstract:

As part of a continuing improvement of economic and environmental aspects of dredging, the US Army Corps of Engineers is conducting underwater construction of berms at various locations on the seafloor. Selected berms are monitored to evaluate their stability and potential usefulness for reducing beach erosion caused by ocean waves and tides and for increasing sand supply along coastal regions. This report describes experimental placement methods used along with a comparison between expected results and those actually achieved. Background site information and measured environmental conditions are summarized. Results of the first years monitoring are discussed.
